Christmas Bells and Blasts

Posted By admin2 on December 24, 2009

Well, we almost had a white Christmas here at the lodge.  There’s still some snowy patches in the shaded thickets, which are always good places to find birds.  Though it’s pretty brisk in the early morning, the cold weather sure makes for some great hunting.   There have been many members join in the last couple months, which means there’s lots of opportunities to share more stories. Everyone who missed the Christmas breakfast lost out on some friendly joking and lots of laughs.

Members Only Pheasant Drive:  Saturday, January 16th

We will be hosting all current members to a plains-style driven pheasant and chukar hunt.  Anyone planning to attend should RSVP no later than Monday, January 11th, as we will need to prepare lunch and provide adequate birds.  If you’ve never been on one of these types of hunts, prepare for some excitement.  Recommended shot sizes to slay dragons is 4 to 6.

There’s nothing like a Beaver Pond Christmas and it’s almost on us. We have new members in the club and exciting events coming up. Our membership is growing. Newest Beaver Pond members are: Chip Bell, Trip Savery, John Lovingood, John Idler, Drew Howell, Mel Lohr, Noël Vanveld, Mike Ledford, Ron Kirkpatrick, Paul Coughlin, and Hal Ingram.

Johnny is inviting everyone to breakfast on Christmas Eve. We’ll start eating at 6:00 AM and keep feeding till everybody’s full. You must RSVP so we know how much food to have. If you have a kid that gets a new gun for Christmas, they can come out and shoot it on Saturday, Dec 26.

We plan a Field Day for Wounded Warriors on February 6th. The soldiers will shoot clays in the morning, have a lunch, do a pheasant tower shoot in the afternoon and have dinner afterwards. Both meals will be prepared by Chef Chris Poole from Alabama. To sponsor a soldier is $300.00 and you’re invited to lunch. Sponsor a pair for $600.00 and you can stay for dinner. If you have a church or civic club who would like to sponsor a soldier, we would appreciate the help. We also need guys who can help manage things in the field and kitchen. Call Johnny to volunteer.

Watch WXII for a segment on our project to give these guys who gave so much for our country an enjoyable day in the field. Please get involved in this and help us show these guys how much we appreciate what they’ve done.

Come to Beaver Pond’s Icelandic New Years Eve Party for clays, hunting and food on Dec. 31. (By celebrating on Iceland time, you can get to bed at a reasonable hour or go to another party. The mounted reindeer head drops at 8:00 PM EST ) Come and spend the night if you want because on New Year’s Day, we’ll have more field pheasant shooting and clays. You can also bring your dog and hunt quail (guides are available if you don’t have a dog). There are plenty of fields available at Beaver Pond. Call and make arrangements for what you want so we can have the birds ready.

Come on out and get in on the Christmas fun at Beaver Pond
